If that sounds like you, this post is exactly what you’re looking for – a straightforward guide with answers to the most common questions.

The most common 15-passenger van rental FAQs

Let’s get straight to it. Here is a list of the questions we get the most from our renters, with clear, transparent answers.

What types of vans do you rent?

Greenvans rents Ford Medium Roof Transit 350 XLT vans with a six-foot interior height, USB charging ports, removable seat rows, and ample cargo space. Our vans are replaced every year, so you know what you’re getting is brand new and equipped with premium features like:

  • A backup camera
  • Bluetooth connection
  • EcoBoost turbo engine
  • SiriusXM radio
  • Apple Carplay & Android Auto

Is my passenger van rental guaranteed?

Yes! Most rental companies, especially when renting from a major agency instead of an independent one, are vehicle rental companies. They have a huge inventory of cars, trucks, minivans, passenger vans, even cargo vans. When you make a reservation with a large airport rental company, for example, you’re guaranteed a vehicle, but not necessarily the vehicle you want or need – which can lead to big problems.

Imagine thinking you’ve secured a 15-passenger van layout at Philadelphia International Airport for your group and their luggage, and finding out at the last minute that what you’re actually getting is two minivans?

Greenvans rents 15-passenger vans in seven U.S. cities, from Boston to Nashville. We don’t rent cars, trucks, or minivans. We keep things simple and easy: we only rent one size and style of Ford Transit Medium Roof 15-passenger van.

That means the van you book is the van you get, guaranteed!

How much storage space is there in the back of your rental vans?

15-passenger van luggage space depends on the number of riders. When our vans are configured to seat 15 people, there isn’t very much luggage space between the last row of seats and the rear doors. You can fit small duffle bags or backpacks, and there’s limited room under the seats for backpacks and small bags.

It’s important to note that 15-passenger van dimensions are the same as a 12-, 11-, and 8-passenger van size. If you’re traveling with fewer than 15 people in your van, we can remove the back row of seats. This adds an additional three feet of cargo space, transforming the vehicle from a 15-passenger to an 11-passenger. This configuration leaves you with space to fit 11 – 12 carry-on bags or 6 – 8 standard pieces of luggage.

Touring bands, film and production crews, or any group of up to 8 people with a need for even more cargo space can ask us to remove two rows of seats in the back. This will change the 15-passenger layout into 8-passenger seating, with about 4.5 feet of empty space for equipment and luggage.

Can I tow a trailer with one of your vans?

Absolutely! All of our Ford Medium Roof Transit 350 XLT 15-passenger vans for rent come equipped with a Class 3 Factory Tow Hitch rated for up to 8,000 lbs. The towing capacity is 4,500 lbs. That’s roughly the weight of a fully loaded U-Haul 6×12 trailer. Our vans have wiring for flat 4 and 7-pin trailer connections.

Please note: We do not provide a dar bar & ball with the tow hitch receiver. Be prepared to bring your own draw bar and correct size ball mount for the trailer you’ll be towing.

Can a regular driver’s license be used to operate a 15-passenger van?

It can! You don’t need a special license to drive or rent 15-passenger vans from Greenvans. Our 15-passenger van license requirements include valid Class E government-issued U.S. driver’s licenses and Canadian licenses.
Foreigners driving in the U.S. must have licenses written in the Latin alphabet with a validity of at least 12 months prior to rental. If your license was issued in a language such as Russian, Arabic, or Japanese, it’s advisable to obtain an international driver’s permit before booking.

Can I pay for my van rental with a debit card, or do I need a major credit card?

Yes! While we prefer that you pay the deposit and balance for your van rental with a major credit card, we do accept debit cards when necessary.

What are your rental requirements?

The requirements to rent a 15-passenger van from Greenvans are as follows:

  • All of your drivers must carry their own personal auto insurance policy with collision and liability coverage to be eligible to drive. If you don’t have your own, you can purchase an insurance policy with us.
  • All drivers must be 21 or older. Each driver must show a valid driver’s license and proof of auto insurance.
  • We require 30% of the total quoted rental fee to reserve the van. Once you pay the reservation deposit your van is confirmed and guaranteed. The balance of the rental is due when you come to pick up your van. If you’re booking a rental that exceeds 30 days, ask about our weekly payment plan prior to making your reservation.
  • The van must be returned in the same condition it was rented to you. That includes a full tank of gas.

Can we have more than one driver registered on our van rental agreement?

Of course! You may add as many drivers as needed to your rental agreement as long as each driver meets our rental requirements, which include a valid driver’s license and a personal auto policy. If a driver doesn’t have a personal policy, you can purchase our full insurance coverage for your rental, or you can provide us with a COI for commercial coverage. At the time of booking, you will receive a confirmation email with a link to submit the names and information of each driver.

Are there service centers or places where we can go that are affiliated with Greenvans if we have a mechanical issue with our 15-passenger van rental during our trip?

We are VERY proactive when it comes to preventive maintenance. All of our vans are either brand new or one model year old and dealer serviced before and after every rental.

We take great care of our vans to make sure you’re safe and have full peace of mind while traveling.

That said, any problem you encounter on the road is our problem, too. Although rare, mechanical issues can happen. The most common issues we encounter are flat tires, dead batteries, and the occasional broken window or windshield.

  • For serviceable issues – such as jump starts, lockouts, and flat tires, our van rentals come with Ford’s reliable roadside assistance, which can be reached at 1-800-241-3673.
  • For minor mechanical issues – our team is on-call 24/7 to solve the problem with you. We work to smooth things out as quickly and seamlessly as possible to ensure you’re not left stranded or knocked too far off your planned travel schedule. The phone number to the Greenvans customer emergency line will be located at the top of your rental agreement and on the key-tag for your van.
  • For major mechanical issues – such as failures that leave the van undrivable, we’ll cover the cost of towing to the nearest Ford dealer. Our team of experts will assess the situation and determine how long it will take to get you back on the road. If we can’t get the van repaired in a reasonable amount of time, we’ll rush a new van to you from our nearest location.

Furthermore, Greenvans will cover the cost of up to two hotel rooms per night if a mechanical issue leaves you hanging for more than one day.

What’s the layout of a 15-passenger van?

A 15-passenger van layout can be configured in four styles:

  • As a 15-passenger van with four seat rows behind the driver and passenger seats. The first three rows are made up of three seats, and the second and third rows are split with one solo seat by the passenger side window. The fourth row is made up of four seats and is situated in the back.
  • As an 11-passenger van, with the last row of four seats removed.
  • As a 12-passenger van, with three seats removed in the back.
  • As an 8-passenger van, with the back two rows removed. This is the standard seating setup for touring bands, film production, and anybody who needs the maximum amount of cargo space.

We will arrange the seating to your preference at no extra charge. Please let us know in advance what you’d like the layout to be.

What are the dimensions of a 15-passenger van?

The dimensions can be broken down like this:

  • 15-passenger van length: 235.5”
  • 15-passenger van width: 81.3”
  • 15-passenger van height 99.2”

Additionally, cargo space changes according to seating arrangements and can be measured as follows:

  • Cargo area dimensions with one row of seats removed:  2.7’ x 5.6’ x 5.5’
  • Cargo area dimensions with two rows of seats removed:  5.8’ x 5.6’ x 5.5’

How many passengers does a 15-passenger van hold?

When it comes to 15-passenger van seating, the number of passengers can vary based on how many rows of seats are in the van.

  • With no seat rows removed, the van will fit 15 passengers including the driver.
  • With the last row of seats removed, the van will fit 11 passengers including the driver. We can leave one seat in the back row to fit 12 passengers if needed.
  • With the back two rows removed, the van will fit 8 passengers including the driver.

Once you know which seating size is right for your group, we can arrange the van’s interior to your comfort.

Are 15-passenger vans safe?

Yes! Renting a 15-passenger van is safe, especially when choosing Greenvans. Our 15-passenger vans are regularly inspected and undergo maintenance before each and every rental. What’s more, each van comes equipped with the latest safety features, including:

  • Pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking
  • Side-curtain airbags
  • A backup camera
  • A lane-centering system
  • Blind-spot information system

We guarantee a safe, well-maintained van every time you rent from us!

Is it easy to drive a 15-passenger van?

It’s easy to drive a 15-passenger van, especially if you’ve driven a larger vehicle before. If not, no worries. There are several things you can do to get comfortable behind the wheel. Start by adjusting the seat for optimal comfort and visibility. Adjust the side mirrors to minimize blind spots.

We recommend practicing for a few minutes in an empty parking lot so you can get used to turning at a wider radius and reverse parking using the backup camera. There are plenty of tips and tricks to make your first time driving a 15-passenger rental van more comfortable, so there’s no need to stress.

What insurance options are available when renting a 15-passenger van?

Greenvans offers the following insurance options:

  • Renter’s Liability Protection (RLP): This is required by both Greenvans and by law. Liability insurance steps in when you are at fault, and cause damage to a third party.
  • Supplemental Liability Protection (SLP): SLP covers bodily injury or property damage to a third party, and exceeds the limits of your primary coverage.
  • Personal Effects & Personal Accident Insurance (PEI/PAI): This is a package of two insurance options which, together, offer limited coverage from loss or damage to your personal belongings, as well as necessary medical expenses and accidental death.
  • Renter’s Collision Protection (RCP): This is not insurance, but will alleviate the cost of any damage done to a Greenvans vehicle during your rental.

If you prefer, we can also provide a comprehensive package of all insurance options for the duration of your rental.

Are there any restrictions on where I can take a rented 15-passenger van?

You can take a Greenvans 15-passenger van all over the U.S. and Canada. However, travel to Mexico is restricted.
